ABSTRACT: The impact of virtual reality (VR) on vocational training for mechanical engineering holds significant potential for transforming traditional educational methodologies. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of VR-based training in mechanical engineering, identify the specific skills and competencies enhanced through VR, and assess student satisfaction with these innovative training methods. A survey design was utilized to gather detailed data from students participating in VR-based vocational programs for mechanical engineering. The sample size comprised 200 students from various technical institutions specializing in mechanical engineering. Purposive sampling was used to select participants with prior exposure to basic VR technology. The case study was conducted at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria. Findings revealed that VR significantly improved students' practical skills, provided immersive learning experiences, and enhanced their understanding of complex mechanical concepts. Students expressed high levels of satisfaction with VR-based training, noting its interactive and engaging nature. It was recommended that vocational training institutions expand their use of VR in mechanical engineering programs and continuously update the content to include the latest technological advancements and industry standards.
